UniPID and the FSDR are jointly seeking to award an exceptional Master’s level thesis from a UniPID member university.

If your Master's thesis relating to development will be complete before July 31st, 2012, you are eligible to participate for the Master’s Award in Development Studies with a prize sum of 1,000 euros.

Virtual Studies course: Food and Development

The course examines food production, distribution and consumption from the perspectives of development, sustainability and global change. The concept of the food system is introduced for approaching and analysing food commodity chains as entities that are embedded in ecological, political, economical and cultural environments. Problematics related to food security are discussed in regard to different geographical scales and in the light of case studies. The course will also briefly introduce different forms of alternative food systems and their current significance for the global South.

The course discusses the origins of development cooperation. How did it come about? The policy making and implementing institutions are introduced, as well as to the different strategies, which have been emphasized up to the present discussion and goals. The development cooperation of Finland is used as an example of the national level.

Virtual Studies course: Project Cycle Management

This course aims to offer practical insights into project management in the field of international development and cooperation. The course provides an overview of management principles in line with development policies and strategies, and introduces students to key management tools and participatory methods used in practical development work.

 

For Students

UniPID offers Virtual Studies courses to all students belonging to UniPID's Member Universities. Virtual Studies are provided on a variety of Sustainable Development topics and students have the opportunity to complete a minor in development studies as well.

For Researchers

UniPID connects researchers to a network of researchers and institutions across Finland and developing nations. UniPID offers valuable research resources and tools, hosts roundtables and training events,  news alerts to research and funding opportunities and more.  

For Partners

UniPID partners with development institutions and networks to strengthen research capacity and promote sustainable development. In the field of research and higher education, UniPID promotes opportunities, projects, activities and more.

Minor in Development Studies

UniPID offers all students from member universities the opportunity to complete a Minor in Development Studies (25 ECTS) through the UniPID Virtual Studies: Sustainability in Development -programme.

Students are free to choose from a list of courses each worth 5 ECTS to tailor an individual study programme. Visit our Courses page to view a list of available courses.
