Course content: The course discusses the origins of development cooperation. How did it come about? The policy making and implementing institutions are introduced, as well as to the different strategies, which have been emphasized up to the present discussion and goals. The development cooperation of Finland is used as an example of the national level.

Learning methods: Independent virtual study by using given readings and internet-based material links, discussions, short assignments and essays.

Objectives:

  • to become conversant with the principles and the history of development cooperation
  • to acquire the basic knowledge about the main development institutions and their activities
  • to become familiar with the current development discussion, policies and strategies
  • to know the basics of the development work and assistance flows

Study material: Provided during the course.

Assessment: grade 0-5. The final mark will be based on the written assignments and essays as well on the participation in the discussions.
